Trial of Short Course Chemotherapy for Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Abstract
A clinical trial of nine months conbined chemotherapy including rifampicin for initial case of pulmonary tuberculosis proven by sputum AFB smear positive in 50 patients was done and its results was compared with that of a standard regimen of isoniazid, streptomycin, PAS or ethambutal in 50 patients. The results is as follows. 1. Chemotherapy failure during therapy was noticed in three patients in only standard regimen. 2. Follow up to six months after stop chemotherapy was done. There was one relaps in rifampicin containing regimen and also one relaps in standard regimen was noticed. 3. Hepatic dysfunction is more prevalent in rifampicin containing regimen.
