Abstract
1) Thirteen cases of Iung abscess 8 male and 5 female were studied clinically and treated conservatively in our department during 9 months from November 1958. The age of the majority cases varied between 21 and 40 years. 2) Seven cases were probably primary, caused either by aspiration of foreign bodies or pneumonia. Five cases were secondary bronchiectasis and bronchial tumor obstruction, 1 case was obscured. 3) Bacteria cultures of sputum showed no dominant bacteria in most cases and there were only 2 subacute, the others were all in the chronic stage. 4) The cases were located 10 the right Iung and specially in the Iower Iobe. Superior and posterior basal segments of the lower lobe were the major Iocalion in the cases due to aspiration. 5) Postural drainage seems 10 be of the same importance as continuous adequated antibiotic treatment. Two cases were complicated with Iocalized empyema.
