Abstract
Clinical research in the combined therapy of the secondary Anti.Tb. drugs, containing pyrazinamide, and its untoward side eftects among the 391 active pulmonary Tb. patients, chosen at random and who were previously on the primary drugs, was done by the Chest Clinic at Severance Hospital of Yonsei University, from January 1963 to December 1967. The combination usally used was pyrazinamide and ethionamide with nydrazid. And the duration of using these drugs varied from two months to over one year. Untoward reactions occurred in 54 patients (1 3.8 %) out of 391, and generally two to three months after the employment of pyrazinamide. Arthralgia was the most frequent symptom in 44 patients(11. 2 %). Hepatic damage, as evidenced by severe jaundice appeared in one patient about two months after taking pyrazinamide, though it was reversible and subsided with the discontinuance of the drug.
