Clinical and Endoscopic Study of Gastric Lesion in Patients taking and Anti-tuberculous Drug Therapy

Abstract
Seventy six cases among 5.887 patients who were treated with various antituberculous drugs were clinically and endoscopically observed from January, 1976 to August, 1978 at Busan National University Hospital. The results were as follows; 1) Gastric troubles were complained in 76 cases among 5.887 cases (1. 3% ) treated with antituberculous drugs. in 24 cases among 236 cases (10.2 % ) treated with PAS.containing regimen. 2) The gastrofiberscopic findings of the 76 cases were edematous lesion in 48.7% . hemorrhagic erosive lesion in 47.4% and acute ulcerative lesion in 3.7% . and those of 24 cases treated with PAScontaining regimen were hemorrhagic erosive lesion in 48.5 % . edematous lesion in 33.3% and acute ulcerative lesion in 28.2 %. 3) The major clinical symptoms of 76 cases were epigastric discomfortness in 96.1 %. indigestion in 90.8% and loss of appetite in 82.9% and those of 24 cases treated with PAS-containing regimen; indigestion in 95.8%, loss of appetite in 79.2% . nausea in 70.8 % and abdominal pain in 54.2%. 4) The healing processes were as follows: in edematous lesion, edema subsided in a few days to a few weeks; in hemorrhagic erosive lesion, hemorrhage and erosion usua lly subsided after one week ; mucosal edema 2-3 weeks later; in acute ulcerative lesion, hemorrhage subsided after one week and shallow ulcer subsided 3-4 weeks later.
