Abstract
T0 evaluate the cellular components of the lower respiratory tract, bronchoalveolar lavage was done in 17 normal, non-smoking patients and analysis of the cells in lavage fluid revealed as follows. 1) Number of male subjects were 8, female 9, Mean age 49 土 13 (Rang 23-69) year. 2) Mean amount of retrieved fluid from total 100ml-lavage of 0.9 % normal saline solution was 51 土11ml (35-67ml) and cell viability was 88 土 4 %. 3) Mean number of total cell co un t was 4.2土 1.6( ×106) (Range 2.0-6.9×106) and cell number per ml was 8. 3土3. 0 x 104. 4) Differential cellular count revealed that alveolar macrophages were 89. 6土4.8%, lymphocytes were 9. 3土4. 5%, and neutrophils were 1. 1 土 0.8 %.
