Clinical Studies of Lung Cancer by Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy

Abstract
Fiberoptic bronchoscopy was perfomed in 179 in and outpatients with various pulmonary diseases from January 1982 through December 1984 at Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital. Out of 50 confirmed lung cancer patient, 25 cases(50 % ) were squamous cell carcinoma; 9 cases (18%) were undifferentiated cell: 7 cases (14%) were adenocarcinoma; 1 case(2%) was metastatic; and 8 cases (16%) were undetermined. Age distribution ranged from 51 years to 70 years, and the male to female ratio was 2.1 to 1. The most prevalent site was the right upper lobe(22%). The rate of histological diagnosis obtained by bronchoscopic biopsy was 66%, and by bronchoscopic brush cytology was 50%.
