Abstract
Pulmonary function indices, such as vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in one second, maximum voluntary ventilation and closing volume were measured on 28 healthy men and 148 pneumoconiotic patients. Chest X-ray films showed no pathologic findings in control group, while pneumoconiotic patients, who were classified according to ILO U/C Intemational method, showed large opacities of various categories. The size of large opacities did not show any change in spite of anti-tuberculous chemotherapy of more than 3 months. From the study, closing volume seems useful in the evaluation of respiratory impairments of pneumoconiotic patients with large opacities than other tests, such as vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in one second, maximum voluntary ventilation
