Abstract

According to the 3rd edition of Diagnositc and Statistical Manual for Mental Discorders developed in 1980, tobacco dependence has been regarded as one of the substance use disorders like alcohol or narcotic addiction. In this artic1e 1 brief1y reviewed c1inical symptoms and signs of tobacco dependence and it’s withdrwal as wel1 as psychological factors contributing to smoking. Various therapeutic modalities were also introduced.
