Abstract
In order to examine the normal range of maximal expiratory and inspiratory mouth pressures in Korean normal adults, the mouth pressures were measured in 80 normal subjects The results were as follows; 1) The mean maximal expiratory pressures in 10 men and 10 women of 3rd decades were 135±21 cmH2O and 120 ± 20 cmH2O, and the mean maximal inspiratory pressures were 108 ± 24 cmH2O and 90 ± 26cmH2O. 2) The mean maximal expiratory pressures in 10 men and 10 women of 4th decades were 153 ± 12 cmHo and 98 ± 19 cmH2O (p <0 .001), and the mean maximal inspiratory pressures were 121± 23 cmH2O and 80 ± 18cmH2O (p<0.001). 3) The mean maximal expiratory pressures in 10 men and 10 women of 5th decades were 144 ± 19 cmH2O and 104 ± 18cmH2O (p<0.001) and the mean maximal inspiratory pressures were 103± 28 cmH2O and 78 ± 24 cmH2O. 4) The mean maximal expiratory pressures in 10 men and 10 women of 6th decades were 118 ± 34 cmH20 and 94 ± 11 cmH2O (p < 0.05), and the mean maximal inspiratory pressures were 101± 34 cmH2O and 62 ± 17 H2O (p<0.01). 5) The mean maximal expiratory pressures in total 40 men and 40 women were 138 ± 26 cmH2O and 104 ± 20 cmH2O (p2O and 78 ± 24 cmH2O (p<0.05) In conclusion, this study showed that the mean maximal expiratory and inspiratory mouth pressures in Korean normal adults were comparable to that of white normal adults.
