Abstract
Transthoracic Needle Aspiration Biopsy (TNAB) is a useful diagnostic technique for evaluation of the localized intrathoracic lesions Previous reports have shown that this technique had a high positive but a low negative predictive value. To evaluate the diagnostic usefulness of TNAB in patients with localized chest lesions, TNAB was performed in the 44 patients over period of recent two years. The obtained results were as follows; 1) The overall predictive value of TNAB was 61.4 percent. 2) The positive predictive value of TNAB in malignant lesion was 95.8 percent, that of TNAB in benign lesion was 28.6 percent 3) The complications during procedure occurred in 9 percent, but none of them required specific treatment Above results suggest that TNAB is a reliable diagnostic method for the investigation of the localized chest lesions that cannot be diagnosed by fiberoptic bronchoscope and sputum cytologic examínatíon.
