Abstract
The purpose of this study is to compare the therapeutic results of Pulmonary tuberculosis treated on an inpatient as contrasting on an ambulatory (home treatment) basis. 1. Under similar conditions, 108 cases of Pulmonary tuberculosis were treated in a hospital as inpatients and 106 cases on ambulatory basis. 2. ln minimal cases, there was no signifìcant difference in the therapeutic results between the two groups. 3. ln moderately advanced or far advanced cases, both the roentgenologic improvements and the sputum conversion of the hospital treatment group occurred more quickly and the fìnal results were much superior to that of the ambulatory group. 4. Cavity closure rates of the hospital-treated (inpatient) group were also superior to that of the ambulatory group. 5. For best results it would seem advisable that the patients with moderately or far advanced, particularly cavitary cases, should be treated in a hospital for at Ieast the first few months of treatment.
