EXPERIENCE OF RE-TREATMENT WITH SO-CALLED SECONDARY ARUGS IN DRUG-RESISTANT PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS

Abstract
A re-treatment by double or triple regimen with ethionamide, cycloserine, and pyrazinamide was evaluated in 27 patients of advanced primary drug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis who han 6 to 17 months of therapy with Primary drugs. Reversal of infectiousness was observed in 64% of far-advanced patients. There was no deaths. Four patients have discontinued ethionamide because of severe gastrointestinal troubles. Liver toxicity to pyrazinamide as evidenced by an abnormal liver function test occurred in one patient. There was no jaundice. Several patients were required to discontinue certain drugs temporarily.
