Prevalence Survey of Tuberculosis In Taegu City, 1967

Abstract
The total number of samples drawn from the total population 850,000 was 4,190. All persons in the units of sample areas were subjected to tuberculin test and all persons over 5years of age were screened by photo-fluoroscopy regardless of the results of the tuberculin test. Those found by either of two readers with any definite or suspicious pathological conditions were examined bacteriological. Tuberculin test: The positive rate of tuberculin test was 69.80% of the tested. The percentages of tuberculin reactors by sex were 68.12% in male and 71.31% in female. The proportion of reactors by age was 23.83% in up to the 4 years then very rapidly increased by aging and reached to almost 80% in 15-19 years. In the proportion of reactors by districts, the Northern Ku revealed the highest with 73.63% while the Eastern Kurevealed the lowest with 61.88%. Comparison of the proportion of reactors between B.C.G. vaccintee and non-vaccintee were 61.35% and Tuberculin respectively. Prevalence rate: Of those who completed radiological examination, active tuberculosis was found as follows; the percentage of cases was 4.63% in all age, by age groups 0-14 Years was 0.54-1.99%; 15-49 years, 4.12-8.9%; more than 50 years, 9.57-25.00%. The percentages of cases by sex were 5.60% in male and 3.76% in female. The percentages of cases by districts were highest(6.35%) in the eastern district while lowest(3.9%) in the northern district. The percentages of cases by the classification of NTA were as follows; minimal was 3.00%; moderately advanced, 1.24% far advanced, 0.39%. Comparison of the prevalence rates of tuberculosis between the vaccinated and non-vaccinated or B.C.G. were 0.56% and 3.43% respectively. Sputum test: positive rate of sputum among active pulmonary tuberculosis was 1.04%. The percentages of positive cases by sex were 1.18% in male and 0.92% in female. Comparison of the percentages of positive rate between the vaccinated and non-vaccinatee were 0.19% and 1.06% respectively.
