Abstract
Among 1778 infectious patients in 9 health cinters in Seoul Special City registened during the six-month period between July and December 1971, 273 were selected randomly for special bacteriological study in terms of drug resistance. The findings were: 1. Although no significant differences were observed between sexes, the age group from 20-49 years was 78.8% of the total. This is specially significan because this age group is most active socially and in terms of labor Production. 2. According to X-ray finding Moderately Advanced is the largest group with 56.8% followed by Far Advanced with 31. 9%. Minimal X-rays contribute 11. 3% of the total. In the case of cavities no significant statistca~ meaning between those with or those without was found. 3. For previous treatment 52.7% had received while 47.3% hadn't. This difference has no statistical meaning. 4. The number of patients with drug sensitivity to those with resistance was a 1 : 1 proportion. For patients having previous treatment the propoartion of sensitive patients to resistant patients was 1 : 3, while for those without previous treatment the propartion of sensitive to resistant patients was 3 : 1. 5. Among infectious patients who had not received perfious treatment 27.7% were found to resistant to one or more drugs of the standard drug regimenat time of registration. This Would seem to indicate a high rate of primary resistance. For infedtious patients who had received previoud treatment, 77.9% were found to be resis to one or more drugs at time of registration. This would indicate acquired resistance is very high among people who treat themselves before coming to the health center.
