STUDY OF ATYPICAL MYCOBACTERIA

Abstract
Sputum from eight hundred and seventy five patients, who were diagnosed as pulmonary tuberculosis x-ray were examined for acid-fast bacilli from July 10. 1966 to Sept. 20. 1966. The results were as follows: Two hundred patients (27.7% )were positive for acid-fast bacilli: among them, 6.5% showed atypical mycobacteria. These atypical mycobacteria were classified according to the Runyoun's Method, and the percentage of photochromogens, scotochromogens nonchromogens and rapid grower were 15.4, 7.7, 53.3, and 23, respectively. Incidense of resistance to three major antituberculous drugs for these atypical mycobacteria to SM(10r), PAS(10r), AND lNH(1r), were 61.5%, 76.7%, and 84,6%, respectively.
